Institutional Events

University Events Management plans and executes events that promote the university, its initiatives and goals. The staff manages a host of annual, university-wide events, including Commencement, Homecoming and the annual Service Recognition Awards ceremony. University Events Management can offer advice on a variety of planning topics such as setting events goals, objectives and timelines; budget tracking and review; venue considerations and logistics management.

Check out some of the distinguished events we have planned:

One of the most significant events on campus is Georgia State’s Commencement Day celebration, which includes a campus-wide celebration and ceremonies for six of Georgia State’s colleges and schools. Rigorous planning and behind-the-scenes work goes into the celebration, which brings more than 24,000guests to the Georgia World Congress Center and the Georgia Dome. www.commencement.gsu.edu.

We work each fall to connect the past with the present by planning a Homecoming Celebration that is packed with events open to alumni, students, employees and the greater university community. University Events Management, which manages the university’s Homecoming committee, collaborates with multiple departments and organizations to plan a week of events that celebrate traditions at Georgia State and instill pride in members of the Panther family. President Mark P. Becker and First Lady Laura Voisinet kick off football game day at the annual President’s Brunch. For more information about Homecoming, click here: homecoming.gsu.edu.

University Events Management hosts many other special events throughout the year, including major groundbreakings, ribbon-cutting ceremonies and building dedications. One of the most recent events the team planned was the groundbreaking for the College of Law’s new building, which is set to open at the corner of John Wesley Dobbs Avenue and Park Place in fall 2015. President Becker and distinguished guests, including the chancellor of the University of Georgia System and members of the Supreme Court of Georgia and the Georgia General Assembly, attended the event.

At Georgia State we host several celebrations each year to honor the hard work and dedication of our outstanding employees. Faculty work is showcased each spring during “Celebrating Faculty Excellence,” an annual awards dinner hosted by President Becker and Provost Risa Palm. It recognizes newly named Regents’ Professors, Distinguished University Professors, faculty award recipients and faculty receiving promotion and/or tenure. Employees are recognized each April at the annual Service Recognition Awards” ceremony held during Employee Appreciation month. This recognition ceremony honors employees who have reached continuous service milestones, as well as the recipients of the Carl V. Patton Awards for Community Service & Social Justice and the George M. Sparks Awards.  Click here for information on the Service Recognition Ceremony and a list of past award recipients.
