In academia, the word “convocation” refers to a ceremonial assembly of the members of a college or university. At Georgia State, First-Year Convocation is a formal ceremony that welcomes new students to campus and marks the beginning of their academic careers. First-Year Convocation is also part of Panther Welcome, a series of events that engages new students in campus life.
Students, faculty and guests attending First-Year Convocation are invited to attend the Panther Welcome Block Party for free food and music immediately following the convocation.
Overflow seating will be available in the Student Center East Speakers Auditorium where the ceremony will be livestreamed. The ceremony will also be livestreamed on this webpage for those unable to attend in-person, but every new student is encouraged to attend this important Panther tradition in person to set you on the right path for your future success (and receive a free welcome gift).
Faculty and incoming students should have received an email to register for the ceremony at their Georgia State e-mail addresses. The final reply-by date is Wednesday, August 17, but early registration is encouraged. If you did not receive the invitation email, contact the Office of University Events Management at email@example.com.
Registration for this event is now closed. If you were unable to register for First-Year Convocation but would like to attend, please arrive to the Sports Arena on Sunday, August 21 at 1:30pm.
